Albania has gorgeous mountains and beaches, nice people and great weather. Above all, it is cheap. A beautiful place to stay.

We stayed at a beach front hotel. The staff were from Philippine. They said Albania is good for you (tourists), not for us (workers). GDP and salaries are low. 

We had dinner at a seaside restaurant. Behind us were a group of English speaking old ladies. Four are residents here, originally from US. One is their friend, visiting from Seattle. They were apparently very happy, at least very loud. We asked about residency. They said it is very easy for Americans and Canadians to get residency.

Albania is indeed a great place to retire now. But it is expected to become an EU member in several years. After that, Albanian can move to any EU country freely. Salary will jump. GDP will jump. Will cost jump?
