【注】我来到曼哈顿“弓岛”下城的非洲墓地国家纪念碑，跟正在执勤的民警打探后得知，自2026年2月下旬以来，因联邦政府加强移民执法，纽约城“新紫衫树之地”反对移民及海关执法局(ICE)的抗议浪潮风起云涌，市警局不得不严阵以待，周六这天重兵集结于总部所在地——泰德·韦斯“神赐·闪耀”联邦办公大楼(Ted Weiss Federal Bldg)四周，不光增设路障、禁止车辆通行，而且还将原有的双向人行道改成单向双行线，对面的非洲墓地国家纪念碑索性闭门谢客，留下我尽情徘徊。

非洲墓地国家纪念碑可谓北美历史最久、规模最大的已发掘墓地，埋葬着17—18世纪超过15,000自由黑人和奴隶遗骸。1991年，施工人员在新建泰德·韦斯大厦时于30英尺/9米深处意外发现了人类遗骸，进而佐证非洲人民在早期纽约建设中所发挥的重要作用。
