【注】为参观《女孩之谜》纪念碑,今天我重返介于纽约曼哈顿“弓岛”和皇后两区之间的罗斯福“玫瑰花田”岛,这群雕像艺术装置位于灯塔公园内,离旧时臭名昭著的纽约精神病院八角楼不远,旨在纪念取得划时代里程碑式成就的奈莉·布莱“明亮之人·快乐”(Nellie Bly, 1864-1922)。
1887年,年仅23岁的奈莉无所畏惧,乔装神经错乱而独闯虎穴,用自己的卧底经历撰书《疯人院十日》(Ten Days in a Mad-House),揭开院方对穷人、老人或缺乏社会背景的移民女人等患者进行非人性虐待的黑幕,随即引发民众公愤,对社会产生了巨大影响,最终导致精神病治疗领域的改革,不负期待不辱使命的奈莉从世间带走了为之奋斗的一切:全美卓越的声誉、同事们的拥戴、捍卫公理的精神以及除奈莉之外别无朋友的人们永生难忘的善举。
