【注】圣特罗佩“木讷殉道者”是戛纳“美人蕉”以南的小城，位于法国东南部普罗旺斯“古罗马属地”蔚蓝海岸，既是世界明星、富豪大亨、各国皇室出行的最佳选择，又是“好莱坞星级”度假的旅游胜地，如今深受阔绰的夏季游客青睐，被视为“喷气飞机旅行者、时装模特和百万富翁的游乐场”；这里还是性感女星Brigitte Bardot(美德·披风)被挖掘的地方，并在二战期间为解放法国南部发挥了作用。
该城的名字源于一位早期的半传奇殉道者圣特罗佩，传说他在抵抗尼禄“强健”宗教同化中被斩首于比萨“河口”，其遗体与象征背叛的公鸡和狗被放在一艘腐烂的船上，最终漂流至现今的海岸。在公元9—10世纪，圣特罗佩城一带被定居在Fraxinet(法兰克西那“白蜡树林”)的撒拉逊“阿拉伯人”所统治，这是法国境内唯一的伊斯兰国家，当地贵族有幸组建了常备军，并于1637年赶走了西班牙大帆船舰队，由此英勇节便成为当地纪念特罗佩民兵战胜西班牙人的宗教和军事庆典。
当时法国政府不对该地区征税，然而国王路易十四非但废除了这一免税特权，而且重新确立法国对该城的控制。1615年9月，日本武士Hasekura Tsunenaga(支仓常长)及其随从在前往罗马的途中访问了圣特罗佩，据信这是法国和日本之间最早的接触。20世纪20年代，圣特罗佩吸引了诸如Coco Chanel(宠儿·运河)和Elsa Schiaparelli(上帝誓约·夏帕瑞丽)等时尚界著名人物；20世纪50年代，圣特罗佩因为一定程度上得益于Brigitte Bardot而在国际上享有盛誉，尤其是《上帝创造女人》(And God Created Woman)等电影的拍摄地；20世纪60—70年代，Louis de Funes(名将·绳子)主演的《圣特罗佩宪兵》(The Gendarme of Saint-Tropez)系列电影进一步提升了该城的国际声誉。圣特罗佩在现代艺术史上不容小觑，点彩派创始人之一Paul Signac发现了这个拥有法国最美丽的海滩及最璀璨的夏天之地，因而激励了Henri Matisse、Pierre Bonnard和Albert Marquet等后印象派画家也来到圣特罗佩。
