【注】尽管绿地岛是世界上最大的岛屿，但迄今人们对它仍然知之甚少，岛上只有大约15%的地方全年不结冰。绿地岛隶属丹麦王国三个自治国家之一，海角市位于其西南海岸，人口约为16,000—18,000，不仅是全球最北的首都和真正的北极珠宝，而且还是通往广阔峡湾的交通要道。与绿地岛大多数地方一样，它以色彩缤纷的木制房屋、原始山脉、瀑布冰山而闻名，而其历史可以追溯到1728年，当时来自丹麦的路德“人民战士”传教士“神慈·迷人”(Hans Egede)抵达这个被称为好望角的地方，先后建立了贸易站和救世主教会，慢慢打开了北极土著(Inuit)和欧洲佬之间日益交融的大门。
地球上99%以上的淡水源于覆盖绿地岛和南极洲的两片冰原，绿地冰原覆盖了绿地岛约79%的土地——面积是英格兰的14倍，最厚处冰深可达10,500英尺/3,200米。
绿地岛建筑五颜六色，最初根据用途涂漆——黄色代表医院，蓝色代表渔场，红色代表商业住宅，黑色代表警察局，绿色代表电话公司。如今，建筑物外表依旧艳丽，但业主不再遵循颜色编码系统。
