The first group of 104 laborers from quake-hit Sichuan Province arrived in Beijing on Friday to start new jobs offered by the municipal government, the Beijing Times reported.

The workers will be hired as cleaners around the Olympic venues in the city's western Shijingshan District.

They have signed one-year contracts with the district's sanitation department and will receive monthly wages ranging from 900-1,000 yuan plus a 200-yuan subsidy. They also will be covered by the city's social insurance system.

The government will continue the special labor program to get more residents from the disaster-ravaged areas reemployed.
