'Working Poor' in China
China has seen a number of people regard themselves as 'Working Poor', a term used to describe those who have regular employment but retain relatively poor living standards because of low wages.
China Youth Daily reports that their recent online poll shows three quarters of the participants believe they belong to the category of 'Working Poor'. They usually work several jobs and barely have any free time. These people choose this way of life mostly because of tough employment competition and limited compensation from their employers.
Consultant Liu Bo with Shanghai Academy of Social Science explains that the presence of 'Working Poor' in China is a reflection of society nowadays, when people care more about consumption, inflation, income distribution and wealth management.
To solve the 'Working Poor' problem, people believe that better choices are to intensify competitiveness, adjust one's attitude and make proper goals that could be realized within one's ability. Professor Zhou Xiaozheng says Working Poor is not a dangerous label for people at the beginning of their careers. Youngsters should enhance their skills, tackle risks and learn as much as they can in order to successfully climb the career ladder. ( CRIENGLISH.com )
