Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China is enjoying rising popularity among foreign travelers. In a mainstream public vote on tourism held in the UK, Hong Kong beat Sydney and Melbourne of Australia to be crowned "Favorite Overseas City," reports Mingpao, a Hong Kong-based newspaper.

The annual tourism vote was co-organized by two British newspapers, the Guardian and the Observer, as well as the website of Guardian Unlimited. About 15 thousand people in the UK voted for their favorite spot to travel to, and most of them were from the middle class.

Statistics from Hong Kong tourism authorities confirm that Great Britain is a major source of tourists to Hong Kong. Nearly 465,000 British tourists visited Hong Kong last year.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong has proven to be a hot destination for Asian tourists as well. At the 17th TTG Asia Tourism Awards, Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways was honored as "the best airline," and Hong Kong International Airport was selected as "the best airport." The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center also won the best in its category. The Landmark Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong topped the list as "best new urban hotel," and the Express by Holiday Inn was awarded "the best budget hotel." ( CRIENGLISH.com )
