加拿大名校前校长 因提倡DEI被拒任职佛州大学

由于保守派激烈反对,佛州州立大学系统理事会(Board of Governors)于3日经过投票,否决由日裔学者小野三太(Santa Ono)出任佛罗里达大学(University of Florida,UF)的新任校长, 原因是其过去支持多元化、公平和包容性(DEI)计划,以及被指奉行自由主义。

综合美联社及《纽约时报》报道,有权监管州立大学系统理事会,以10比6的票数否决小野的任命,也是历来首次推翻大学董事会的提名。

小野三太在学术界享有很高名声,被视为佛罗里达大学校长的唯一人选,上月获该校董事会一致通过提名,预定出任该校第 14 任校长。在此之前,小野至上月仍是密歇根大学的校长,过去也曾任卑诗大学、辛辛那提大学的校长。

投票之前,几位著名的保守派人士对小野三太在支持巴勒斯坦抗议、气候变迁努力、性别意识形态和密歇根大学的 DEI 计划以及他之前的学术职位提出了质疑。

佛罗里达州共和党参议员斯科特 (Rick Scott) 在X社交平台上表示,这些行动表明“他愿意安抚并优先考虑极左翼活动分子,而不是确保学生受到保护并接受优质教育”。

随着 DEI 遭受许多质疑,小野三太后来立场也稍微改变,他早前在《高等教育内幕》(Inside Higher Ed) 上撰文称,他最初支持 DEI 计划,是因为它们的目标是“为每个学生提供平等的机会和公平”。

“但随着时间的推移,我看到 DEI 变成了别的东西——更多地关注意识形态、分歧和官僚主义,而不是学生的成功。”小野写道,并补充说他最终限制了密歇根大学的 DEI 办公室扩张。 

美国总统川普上任后宣布废除 DEI 政策,不少企业和机构组织等纷纷叫停相关计划。
