007  Not Marble, Nor the Gilded Monuments（LV）

Not marble, nor the gilded monuments
Of princes, shall outlive this powerful rhyme;

But you shall shine more bright in these contents
Than unswept stone, besmear'd with sluttish time.
When wasteful war shall statues overturn,          5
And broils root out the work of masonry,
Nor Mars his sword, nor war's quick fire shall burn
The living record of your memory.
'Gainst death, and all oblivious enmity
Shall you pace forth; your praise shall still find room 10
Even in the eyes of all posterity
That wear this world out to the ending doom.
 So, till the judgment that yourself arise,
 You live in this, and dwell in lovers' eyes.

007  冷看大理石，睥睨鍍金碑（第五十五首）

冷看大理石，睥睨鍍金碑，

王族墓銘鏽，難與鏗鏘詩韻比壽。①

君有內美載文筆，日益增輝，

頑石塗油漆，終將毀於春秋。②

當戰亂耗資推翻貴胄雕塑，③

當權爭內訌摧毀紅墻玉階，

無論戰神利劍兵燹烈火

無法焚劫青史芳名冊。

頡頏死神，抗衡忘恩薄情人，④  

君將生氣煥發，豐富讃美詩史，

在後代眼睛裏閃爍神韻，

直到人世磨損趨近末日。

如是，終審之前君將再次高聳，

活在詩碑裏，常住仰慕眼神中。

① 第1、2行直譯是：沒有雲石、王公鑲金的墓碑，將能比這有力的詩活得更長久。在英國的教堂墓園，王族的墓碑往往用金葉裝飾。

② 原文「unswept」一詞，此處意為「沒有清洗的」或「沒有磨光的」。「Sluttish」一詞意為「粗野的」、「骯臟的」或「泥濘的」。

③ 原文「broils」一詞本義為爭吵，此處意為戰爭或暴亂。

④ 原文片語「all oblivious enmity」可以作多種解讀，或認為可以解讀為導致世人忘記詩美的戰爭或事變，或認為「oblivious」一詞可以解讀為「令人遺忘的墳墓）（the grave of oblivion）， 「enmity」一詞可以解讀為「對你的輕蔑」（contempt for you）。
