God Said Jews First

In Romans 1:16, Paul wrote:

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.

Matthew 15:21-28 tells us a story about a Canaanite Woman who asked Jesus to heal her daughter. At first, Jesus kept silent, but his disciples urged him to find a way to get rid of this woman. Then Jesus said, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.” The woman knelt before Jesus and kept begging for help. Jesus replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.” The woman answered “Yes it is, Lord. Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.” Then, Jesus praised her faith and healed her daughter right away.

Why do Jews have priority before gentile? Jews were chosen by God to bring salvation onto earth. God’s plan is to bring forward a number of Jewish believers, and then send some of them to spread the gospel among other nations nearby, and eventually spread to the rest of the world. Yes, God has a timeline.

Although christians say that God is omnipotent (all-powerful), omnipresent (all places at one time), omniscient (all knowing) and omnibenevolent (all good), these characteristics does not mean that God can do “anything”. God will not break the natural laws he has made, under most circumstances.

The Bible tells us there is a time for everything in Ecclesiastes 3:1.

In modern society, it is common for humans to prioritize tasks and created schedules. Each time you board an airplane, a flight attendant will always remind you that you should put on oxygen mask first, before helping others during an emergency. Why? If you do not follow this order, you might die while trying to help others, and in this way, you can no longer help them anymore.

Why does Jesus only have12 disciples? Why not 120, 1200 or 12000? Why doesn’t he use his super power to make more disciples so that the gospel can be spread faster?

Sometimes, we think our ways are better than God’s way. But the Bible tells us that  God’s ways and God’s thoughts are better than ours in Isaiah 55:9.
